Call for Early Reseachers participate at the International Workshop on inclusive and special education policies, practices and research in Brazil and the UK

Researcher Links Programme, scheme offered within the Newton Fund, the British Council and FAPESP, open this calling in order to select 22 Early Career Researchers – ECRs in Special Education and related areas from institutions of UK and São Paulo State, to participate at the previewed activities on the International Workshop above mentioned

The event will be holding at the Federal University of São Carlos, São Carlos-SP, Brazil, on 12th – 14th March 2015 and it is being coordinated by Professor Richard Rose, University of Northampton, UK, and Professor Enicéia Gonçalves Mendes, Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil. Beyond the coordinators, there will be the active collaboration of four senior researchers (mentors): Prof. Cristina Devecchi (University of Northampton), Prof. Liz Todd (Newcastle University), Prof. Maria Amélia Almeida and Prof. Cristina Bróglia Feitosa de Lacerda (both from Universidade Federal de São Carlos).

To attend this workshop, we invite Early Career Researchers from the UK and the State of São Paulo, Brazil, to properly fill the Online application form, in English, until 24 November 2014. Applicants will be evaluated according the following criteria:

a) must have completed doctoral level studies within the past ten years;

b) to be linked to higher education institution;

c) be working on research in the area of special and inclusive education; and

d) to be interested on the following Thematic Groups – TG (in the application form, please indicate 1th and 2th options of GT’s interest):

TG 01 – Identification and assessment of disability and special educational needs: addressing the tension between invisibility and over-identification.

TG 02 – Including children in schools: evidence based practice.

TG 03 – Evidence from the classroom: teachers creating effective inclusive environments.

TG 04 – Investigating interdisciplinary approaches to inclusion: working with professionals outside schools.

TG 05 – Making the agenda more visible: research influencing policy change.

After the pre-selection, applicants will be asked to present an extended abstract (2.500 words), in English, based upon their research in relation to one of the five conference themes (please, see Workshop Agenda attached).

Based on the same criteria adopted by both countries (UK and Brazil), all 22 ECR selected will have all travel and accommodation expenses covered by the Researcher Links programme.
